Lady Speightspeare earns two Sovereign Awards at Canadian ceremony

Speightstown’s top-tier filly Lady Speightspeare took home both Champion Turf Female and Champion Older Main Track Female honors at the 48th Annual Sovereign Awards ceremony hosted by the Jockey Club of Canada on May 14.

Her 4-year-old campaign of 2022 included graded wins in the Nassau S. (G2), Seaway S. (G3) and Trillium S. (G3), all at Woodbine, the first on the turf and the latter two on the main track. She also placed in the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf (G1) and Jenny Wiley S. (G1), both on the Keeneland turf course.

Owned by her breeder Charles Fipke, Lady Speightspeare has a lifetime record of 7-1-3 in 14 starts, with earnings of $807,645. Her dam Lady Shakespeare was a two-time graded stakes winner and is a sister two-time Grade 1 winner and sire Shakespeare.

Speightstown, a perennial top-10 sire, is currently the leading active sire in North America by winners, with nearly 3,200 to date. He also ranks third lifetime by stakes winners, with 132, and by progeny earnings, which are nearing $150 million.
