Island Commish became Commissioner’s second maiden winner of the day when the 2-year-old colt won his debut on a sloppy Gulfstream Park track by nearly 10 lengths.
Combined with Glory Road’s win at Saratoga, Commissioner now has seven first-crop winners. His filly Powerfulattraction was the runner-up in Saturday’s $200,000 Sorrento S. (G2), his first graded stakes performer
Sent to the lead soon after the start, Island Commish got some pressure from Last Jet Out in the first quarter-mile, but shook clear soon after and was never threatened from then on, winning under wraps.
The winner is campaigned by Shooting Star Thoroughbreds and was bred by Julia Rice. Island Commish is the second foal out of Bide a Wee Island, who is a half-sister to millionaire Something Extra.
