Artie Schiller’s impressive stakes-winning 2-year-old colt Hemp Hemp Hurray is part of an overflow field entered in Friday’s $1 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (G1) at Del Mar.
After breaking his maiden by four lengths in July at Belmont Park, Hemp Hemp Hurray was sparkling in winning the Tyro S. by more than seven lengths in his stakes debut. He was a very game second, beaten just a neck by Untamed Domain in Woodbine’s Summer S. (G2), and both horses are logical choices in a very competitive race that has six European-based horses in the 14-horse field.
Trained by Wesley Ward for Ken and Sarah Ramsey, Hemp Hemp Hurray was bred by Bernard and Karen McCormack.
A win by Hemp Hemp Hurray would make Artie Schiller one of the rare sires who won a Breeders’ Cup race and also sired a Breeders’ Cup winner. The WinStar stallion captured the Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1) in his 4-year-old season. He has gone on to be the sire of 70 black type horses and more than 35 stakes winners. His 2018 fee was recently announced at $10,000 stands and nurses.
Hemp Hemp Hurray drew post 12 for the Juvenile Turf, which runs at 6:50 p.m. ET.
