Harlan’s Holiday tops FT July with $310K, $225K colts

Harlan’s Holiday sired the sale topper at the Fasig-Tipton July yearling sale with hip No. 168 going for $310,000; the WinStar stallion also was represented by another colt that brought the fourth highest price of the auction, hip No. 103 went for $225,000 in the one day auction held on July 12.

Harlan’s Holiday was the Leading Sire by average at FTK July among all stallions with three or more sold, as his four yearlings averaged $131,000, an outstanding return on his 2009 fee of $30,000.

The sale topper was bred in Kentucky by Alvin D. Haynes and was consigned by Crossroads Sales, agent. He was purchased by Barbara Banke’s Stonestreet Stable and George Bolton.

“He’s a big, physical colt with great presence,” said Crossroads Greg Burchell prior to the sale. “He has a wonderful constitution. He is by a productive stallion right now. His mother put some size on him. He has a beautiful walk and a lovely body.”

The bay colt is the first foal out of the stakes-placed mare Acrosstheborder, who is in turn out of the stakes winner Canadian Envoy.

Hip No. 103, a gray colt consigned by Gainesway, agent, went to EQB Inc., agent. The Louisiana-bred is out of the Dixieland Band mare Shiny Band, who earned nearly $400,000 and won the Grade 3 Shuvee H. She is a half-sister to Shine Again, winner of $1.27 million who placed in an incredible 20 stakes races and was a two-time Grade 1 winner.
