Golden Principal’s eye-catching debut maiden special weight win Saturday at Del Mar earned the 2-year-old Constitution filly a TDN Rising Star tag, the fifth Rising Star from her sire’s first crop. Only Into Mischief, who is the leading General Sire this year, has more Rising Stars, an extremely impressive feat for a First-Crop sire.
Constitution leads all Freshman sires by graded stakes winners with four, and is in the top five in several other categories.
Golden Principal, a $200,000 purchase at the April OBS Spring 2-year-old sale, stalked Diggin Gold for three furlongs before effortlessly going to the lead, then comfortably held off Classy Ruler to win by 1 1/2-lengths in 1:09.72.
The winner is trained by Bob Baffert for Karl Watson, Mike Pegram and Paul Weitman and was bred by CESA Farm.
