Congrats got his second black type winner in as many days Sunday at Saratoga when Goin’ Good won the $120,000 Coronation Cup for her owner/breeder Klein Racing.
The 3-year-old filly had finished second in a pair of stakes events earlier this year before getting her breakthrough win over a sloppy Saratoga main track.
Originally scheduled for the turf, the Coronation Cup scratched down to just four runners following the surface change. Goin’ Good pressed Mischiefful through a half-mile before taking the lead in mid-stretch. She held off the late charge of Farsighted to win by a half-length.
“I was OK with it coming off [the turf],” said winning trainer Brad Cox. “I always thought she was a filly who could handle three-quarters on the dirt or the mud. I wouldn’t be opposed to trying her on the dry dirt. She’s really steady and has a lot of try about her and a lot of determination and heart.”
The winner is out of Klein’s five-time stakes winner Good Deed, whose dam Hidden Assets was a Grade 3 winner and has produced a total of five multiple stakes winners.
Coupled with Bango’s win in the Good Lord S. at Ellis Park, Congrats is now the sire of 43 lifetime stakes winners, with six in 2021.
