Chilean-bred First Constitution was a gate-to-wire winner of the $100,000 Flat Out S. on May 6 at a rainy Belmont Park, taking the 1 3/8-mile race by four lengths.
The 5-year-old son of Constitution, owned by Don Alberto Stable (also his breeder_, WinStar Farm LLC and Twin Creeks Racing Stables, LLC, is now a two-time stakes winner in the U. S. and was a Grade 1 winner in his native Chile during his 3-year-old campaign.
First Constitution wasted no time getting to the lead in the Flat Out, opening up by some four lengths in the first quarter-mile. After getting him to relax on the backstretch, jockey Jose Lezcano urged him on once again on the final turn, and First Constitution easily opened up again and was all alone in the stretch.
Out of Antic, the winner is his Chilean dam’s most accomplished runner. He has a winning younger full-brother named Dizengof (Chi) and an unraced 3-year-old half-brother named Lukka (Chi).
First Constitution is one of Constitution’s five stakes winners this year, tied for the top spot among Fourth-Crop sires. He also leads that list with 14 stakes horses to date.
