Drosselmeyer, the Belmont S. (G1) and Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) champ, sired his first foal on Tuesday when a colt was born at Craig and Holly Bandoroff’s Denali Stud in Paris, KY.
Bred by Galatyn Stables, the chestnut colt with white blaze is the second foal out of the young Hennessy mare Heather’s Angel, who was a Saratoga allowance winner and hails from the immediate family of Arkansas Derby winner Private Emblem.
“He’s a nice colt, very classy looking,” said Gary Bush, Denali farm manager. “He has above average size, good leg and covers a lot of ground. There’s a lot to like at this stage.”
Drosselmeyer, who bred 132 mares in his first book at stud in 2012, became only the seventh horse in history to win an American classic and the Breeders’ Cup Classic, as he closed out his career with a victory in the $5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) in 2011 over a star-studded field. The year prior, he captured the 2010 Belmont S. (G1). Drosselmeyer retired to WinStar as Distorted Humor’s most accomplished racehorse with earnings of $3,728,170.
Drosselmeyer hails from the Grade 1-winning mare Golden Ballet. He will stand his second season in 2013 at WinStar for a fee of $17,500 stands and nurses.
