Gershwin turned in a stellar performance in his stakes debut in Friday’s $300,000 Penn Mile (G3), winning the off-the-turf race in rainy conditions by two lengths (VIDEO).
The 3-year-old colt is Distorted Humor’s 161st lifetime stakes winner world wide, 70 of which are graded stakes winners. The 161 stakes winners leads all active stallions standing in North America.
Gershwin, a Godolphin LLC homebred, tracked the leaders from his spot in third through the first five furlongs before making a bold move for the lead on the far turn. He swept past a reeling The King Cheek in upper stretch and went on to win in 1:39.24 over the sloppy going.
Gershwin is now 2-1-2 in five starts and has earned $249,600. He is out of five-time Grade 1 winners Music Note, making him a half-brother to this year’s Dubai World Cup (G1) winner Mystic Guide.
