A pair of colts by Distorted Humor wrapped up the first session of the 2012 Keeneland September yearling sale with some rousing bidding at the Lexington auction, including the $1.65 million session topper.
Sheikh Hamdan’s Shadwell Estate Company, Ltd. found hip No. 131 much to their liking, as they outlasted several bidders to take home the bay colt from the Eaton Sales, agent consignment.
The Kentucky bred certainly has star potential in him. He is the first foal out of Mushka, winner of $1,096,125. Her stellar career included wins in the Ashland S. (G1), Demoiselle S. (G2), and Glen Falls H. (G3), as well as a second in the 2009 Breeders’ Cup Ladies Classic (G1). As a yearling, Mushka sold for $1.6 million, then brought $2.4 million at the 2008 Keeneland November sale.
When hip No. 132 came through the ring as the final horse of Monday’s session, it was Shadwell again putting up the winning bid for a Distorted Humor colt. The hammer price for the bay Kentucky bred was $850,000, which wound up the sixth-highest price of the evening.
The juvenile is out of the stakes winning mare My Miss Storm Cat, the dam of 2011 Eclipse champion 2-year-old filly My Miss Aurelia, who capped a perfect juvenile season with a win in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1).
