Urban Fairytale edged clear of Tasting the Stars in the final furlong to win the $100,000 Brookside S. on Sept. 1 at Colonial Downs.
The victory was the first stakes win for 4-year-old Distorted Humor filly, who is trained by Ian Wilkes for Winchester Place Thoroughbreds.
Always within striking distance in the 1 1/16-mile turf contest, Urban Fairytale came on even terms with Tasting the Stars at the top of the stretch. The duo tussled most of the rest of the way until the final sixteenth, when Urban Fairytale got the best of her foe to win by a length in 1:44.35 on the firm turf.
The victory upped the winners earnings to $148,119.
Urban Fairytale is the 162nd black-type winner for Distorted Humor, more than any active sire currently standing in North America. Bred by Audley Farm Equine, Urban Fairytale’s dam, Fairytale Ending, is out of Group 1 winner and English Highweight Airwave (GB).
