Surveillance cruised to a 3 ¼-length victory in the $300,000 Troy S. (G3) at Saratoga, the first graded stakes win for the gray/roan son of Constitution.

Surveillance had racked up three listed wins prior to Saturday’s win in the off-the-turf Troy. After scratching down to five horses, Surveillance was the post-time favorite. He settled nicely in third place and was three-wide around the turn as he mounted his bid for the lead. Surveillance put his head in front in midstretch and drew off from there to win in hand.

“He was just kind of tossing his head quite a bit [in the gate] and I just never really got him to settle in there,” winning jockey Tyler Gaffalione said. “He kind of lunged the first step out of there, but after a quarter-mile into the race, he got well within himself, and I was traveling really well throughout.”

Surveillance is owned by Photo Finish LLC and has amassed $943,457 and boasts a 10-5-8 record from 36 starts. He was bred in Kentucky by Kendall E. Hansen, M.D. Racing LLC.
