Constitution’s Chasing Liberty digs deep to win $200,000 Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance S.

Chasing Liberty earned the second stakes win of his young career with a gallant victory in Friday’s $200,000 Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance S. at Del Mar.

The 2-year-old son of Constitution is one of 11 stakes winners by his sire in 2024. With over $13.8 million in progeny earnings this year, Constitution is ranked fifth on the General Sire list.

Chasing Liberty was making his two-turn debut in Friday’s one-mile turf race. He broke well and was third, never more than two lengths from the lead, through the first half-mile. Going three-wide on the final bend, Chasing Liberty took the lead turning for home. In the final furlong he held-off Test Score to win by a neck in 1:37.44 on the firm turf.

“We had a beautiful trip,” said winning jockey Irad Ortiz, Jr. “He broke well and he was a little closer than in his last couple or races. The field was bunched, so I was comfortable going three wide. When I asked him to run turning for home, he responded. I felt that other horse coming on the inside, so I asked a little more and he fired.”

Chasing Liberty is a Twin Creeks Racing Stable LLC homebred trained by Rob Atras. His three wins in four starts include a victory in the $1 million Juvenile Sprint S. at Kentucky Downs. His earnings now stand at $770,901.
