Leading First-Crop sire Constitution scored his second maiden special weight winner in as many days on Saturday when Mandamus rallied to win a five-furlong main track affair by a length at Gulfstream Park.
Coupled with Strongconstitution’s win Friday at Del Mar, Constitution now has nine First-Crop winners, second most of any Freshman sire.
Mandamus took a bit to get into stride, but once she found her footing, she quickly advanced and had pacesetter Don’t Eatthe Apple in her sights. The early leader was stubborn, by Mandamus ran her down in the final sixteenth to score a popular victory.
Mandamus is owned by Sonata Stable and was bred by Orlyana Farm. She is the second foal out of Holyana, a half-sister to multiple Grade 2 winner Riding the River.
