Anthonys Cleopatra took over the lead with a little less than a half-mile to run in Saturday’s California Oaks and never looked back, drawing away in the stretch to win by nearly four lengths in the stakes debut for the 3-year-old Constitution filly.
Anthonys Cleopatra is one of 12 stakes horses and seven graded horses this year for Constitution, the top numbers for any Fourth-Crop sire.
Unhurried out of the gate, Anthonys Cleopatra settled into a good stalking spots a couple of lengths off the lead. She held her spot until the midway point of the race, when she surged to the front going into the final bend. She widened her lead easily in the stretch and came home a 3 ¾-length winner in the 1 1/16-mile contest.
Anthonys Cleopatra, a winner of 3 of 4 starts, races for owner/breeder Cacchiotti Ranch and trainer Tim McCanna. She has earned $88,000. The dark bay is the first foal out of Luxor Lady, whose siblings include Honeybee S. (G3) winner Euphrosyne.
