Constitution colt takes Texas Turf Mile for second straight stakes win

Chasing Liberty got his 2025 campaign off to a roaring start with a 2 ¾-length victory in Saturday’s $100,000 Texas Turf Mile S. at Sam Houston.

The 3-year-old son of Constitution was making his first start since taking the $200,000 Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance S. on Breeders’ Cup weekend at Del Mar.

Chasing Liberty broke alertly and was second until Roustabout went wide into the first turn, giving Chasing Liberty the lead. He was closely pursued by Curahee for the next six furlongs, then found his best stride in the stretch, pulling away to win handily in 1:38.96 on the firm turf.

The winner is owned by his breeder Twin Creeks Racing Stable LLC. Chasing Liberty, who also won the Juvenile Sprint S. at Kentucky Downs last September, is now 4-0-0 in five starts and has earned $827,301.

Chasing Liberty was one of four stakes horses for Constitution on Saturday. He also had a trio of second place finishers: Implementation in the Fred Hooper S. (G3) at Gulfstream Park, Patriot Spirit in the Fifth Season S., Silver Rose in the Bugler Overnight S., the latter two at Oaklawn Park.
