Congrat’s Overture dynamic in Indiana Oaks (G3) victory

WinStar Farm’s Overture broke on top and never looked back in Saturday’s $200,000 Indiana Oaks (G3) at Indiana Grand, the first stakes win for the 3-year-old Congrats filly.

Congrats has been among the leading sires of winners over the past several years and is once again in the top 10 in 2017 with 94 individuals to date. He is also the sire of the $1.7 million sales-topper at the OBS March 2-year-old sale.

Overture set all the tempo in Saturday night’s 1 1/16-mile contest. After six furlongs in a very manageable 1:13.94, she quickened noticeably coming into the stretch and was going along briskly as she came under the wire a little more than a length ahead of Mopotism. The final time was 1:43.79 on a fast track.

“We’ve always liked the filly,” said Kenny McCarthy, assistant to Overture’s trainer Bill Mott. “Bill thought she fit here tonight.”

Sean Tugel, director of bloodstock for WinStar Farm added, “It’s fantastic. Her running lines over her last couple of races have been very good. The filly that beat her last time out came back and won the Mother Goose (G1) last week. She’s a filly we thought would really appreciate the two turns, and we got her out of New York, which was a one-turn mile and a sixteenth.”

Pedigree Notes from the TDN:

Acquired for $385,000 as an OBS March 2-year-old in training, the winner is a half to SW & GSP Mexikoma. Second dam Hidden Pleasure is a half-sister to GSW and sire Luftikus.
