Indy Lyon won for the fourth time in five 2021 starts Sunday at Tampa Bay Downs in the $110,000 Sophomore Turf S., the first stakes start for the 3-year-old son of Congrats.
Indy Lyon led all the way in the 1 1/16-mile event, but had to withstand dramatic stretch run with Chess’s Dream and the furious late charge of Officiating. The three hit the wire on nearly even terms, with Indy Lyon a nose in front of Officiating, and Chess’s Dream a neck back in third.
After beginning his 2-year-old career last autumn on the dirt, Indy Lyon has found a new home since switching to the turf in December. All four of his wins have come on the grass, with Sunday’s victory upping his earnings to $99,691 for owner Jerry Campbell.
Indy Lyon was bred by Rustlewood Farm and is out of Cameron Crazies, also the dam of graded stakes winner Prudhoe Bay.
Congrats is currently second, behind only Into Mischief, on the General Sire winners’ list with 51 to date. He has accounted for eight winners in the past two days alone, along with Rushaway S. runner-up Extrasexybigdaddee. Congrats is standing the 2021 season for $7,500 S&N.
