Glory Road made up a double-digit deficit and a wide trip to win his Saratoga debut on Saturday by a neck, becoming Commissioner’s sixth winner from his first crop of runners, all half-dozen coming in maiden special weight races.
After getting bumped at the start, Glory Road was well off the pace as the field made its way down the backstretch. With no choice but to go wide, Glory Road and jockey John Velazquez was five-wide into the stretch and with great strides, made up a six-length deficit in the final furlong to seize the win.
Bred by Turnley Farms, Glory Road is owned by China Horse Club and WinStar Farm, who purchased the dark bay for $220,000 at the 2018 Keeneland September Yearling sale. Glory Road is the first foal out of Highest Quality, who is from the same family of multiple Grade 1 winners Tax Ruling and Finder’s Fee.
