Comicas, a 5-year-old son of Distroted Humor, collared Muarrab (GB) in the final furlong en route to a 1 1/4-length win in the $175,000 Dubawi S. (G3) at Meydan Racecourse on Jan. 18.
The victory was the first stakes win for the striking chestnut, who was second in last year’s Dubai Golden Shaheen (G1) and is pointing towards that race in late March once again this year.
Comicas was several lengths off the leaders and well off the fence as well until launching his bid with about three furlongs to run. He hit his best stride inside the final eighth-mile, powering past Muarrab to win going away in 1:12.44 on a fast main track.
Winning rider William Buick said of Comicas, “He is a lovely, honest horse who handles this surface particularly well and the one thing we do know about him is he may be a bit outpaced early, but he is going to run home strongly. That basically is what he has done here because they went very hard up front, as we expected, and it has panned out perfectly for him. The horse deserves a big win like this and it is great for the whole team.”
Pedigree Notes from the TDN
