Colonel John filly dominates Santa Anita’s Wishing Well S.

Cadet Roni proved much the best in the $75,000 Wishing Well S. Sunday at Santa Anita Park, splashing to a 6 ¾-length victory in the 6 ½-furlong contest that was rained off the turf.

Colonel John ranked in the top 5 on both the First and Second Year Sire lists the past two seasons and has started off 2016 with a pair of stakes winners. The WinStar stallion also has the stakes-winning duo of Airoforce and Cocked and Loaded on this the 2016 Triple Crown Trail.

Making her first stakes start, Cadet Roni dueled with Yana through the first half-mile, then spurted away to win comfortably over the sloppy going.

Cadet Roni, 4, is now 4-1-2 in 11 starts and has banked $148,840 for Al and Saundra Kirkwood. The dark bay filly was bred in Kentucky by WinStar Farm and hails from the same family as four-time Grade 1 winner and $1.7 million earner Denon.
