A colt by Colonel John was the session-topper during Thursday’s Keeneland September Yearling sale, with trainer Ken McPeek going to $170,000 to secure hip No. 3164.
Consigned by Wendy Noel Sales, agent, the bay Kentucky-bred is the first foal out of Wildcat Dreamer, a daughter of Western Dreamer, who was a stakes winner at two and placed in a trio of graded races during her juvenile campaign.
Colonel John, the nation’s second-leading Third-Crop sire with nearly $2.9 million in progeny earnings (behind only Triple Crown sire Pioneerof the Nile), also has a Second-Crop best 66 winners, nine more than any other sire.
