Colonel John 2yo impresses in debut

Colonel John sired another impressive maiden special winner, when his son Here’s Johnny won his career debut at Churchill Downs today.

A $220,000 OBS sale-topping yearling, Here’s Johnny is among the arsenal of famed juvenile trainer Wesley Ward, who had him primed and ready for combat. Breaking from post 5, Here’s Johnny laid close to the pace for the first 3/8 of a mile, then angled out for the drive and strode clear in the stretch, hitting the wire 2 1/2 lengths clear, in :57.53 for five furlongs on the turf.

Bred in Florida by Rick Sutherland, Here’s Johnny is out of Bon Caro, by Bon Point (GB), and races now for Ice Wine Stable.
