First-Crop sire Good Samaritan was represented by his 12th winner Saturday at Hawthorne when Coffee Caliente was a 1 ½-length maiden special weight winner at six furlongs (WATCH RACE).
The bay 2-year-old was already stakes-placed from his prior start in the Shakopee Juvenile and was a handy winner on Saturday. After taking the lead in the first quarter-mile, he was going along comfortably around the turn. Set down for the stretch drive, he was never seriously threatened and won under a hand ride in 1:10.91.
Coffee Caliente is owned by Tailored for Gold Stables and Zahler Racing LLC and was bred in Kentucky by Sandra Sexton and Silver Fern Farm. His dam Hot Coffee has four foals to race, including the stakes winner Abrogate.
Good Samaritan’s runners have proven very versatile to this point, winning on both turf and dirt at distances from five furlongs to one mile. He will stand the 2023 season at WinStar for $7,500 S&N. At this week’s Fasig-Tipton October yearling sale, which runs Oct. 24-27, he has 14 lots in the catalogue.
