Monforte streaked to a front-running victory in the $75,000 Bear’s Den S. Sept. 5 at Gulfstream Park, the second stakes win of the year for the 3-year-old Carpe Diem colt.
Carpe Diem is a top-ten Second-Crop sire with five stakes horses an nearly $2 million in progeny earnings to date.
Monforte came out of the gate on top in the 7 1/2-furlong Bear’s Den and never looked back. After getting the half-mile in :46.11, he widened his lead to three lengths in upper stretch and coasted under the wire to win by 1 1/2-lengths in 1:27.66, less than a second off the track record on the firm turf.
