Carpe Diem, a top-10 First-Crop sire of 2019, had a pair of sharp winners over the past weekend, including maiden special weight winner Morning Addiction and the colt Monforte, who is two-for-two this year.
Morning Addiction, a $180,000 Keeneland September Yearling, was making just her second career start and first on the dirt. Trained by Peter Eurton, the chestnut filly won the 5 1/2-furlong contest by a head. Owned by C R K Stable LLC, Morning Addiction was bred by Mark Stansell. She is the first foal out of Quay, whose dam is a sister to Grade 1 winner Cupid.
Monforte has won four of his last five starts, dating back to last August, when he broke his maiden by more than eight lengths. His latest win came Jan. 24 at Gulfstream Park in a seven furlong allowance race, winning by 1 1/4-lengths. Monforte was bred by Westbury Stables LLC.
Carpe Diem’s runners earned more than $1 million last year, with a pair of stakes winners and four stakes horses overall.
