Sweet Kisses became the second winner for First-Crop sire Carpe Diem with a 2 1/4-length victory on July 19 in a six-furlong maiden special weight affair at Saratoga (VIDEO).
Tracking the pace set by Kiawah Sunset through the first half-mile, the eventual winner came three-wide into the stretch, rallied to the lead shortly thereafter, then drew off smartly to get the distance in a very good 1:09.78 on fast main track.
Sweet Kisses races for Johns Martin et al and was bred by Charles Muth and Patrick Murphy. A $290,000 auction buy at the 2018 Fasig-Tipton October Yearlings sale, Sweet Kisses’ dam True Kiss is a half-sister to Grade 1 millionaire Silver Max.
Multiple Grade 1 winner Carpe Diem bred an average of 146 mares his first three years at stud. His 2-year-olds have been very well-received at stud this year, bringing up to $650,000.
