Monforte 8 1/4-length maiden win on Aug. 9 over the Gulfstream Park turf course came despite a driving rainstorm and made him Carpe Diem’s fourth First-Crop winner.
Monforte and Chads Choice were right together for the first half-mile, when Monforte subsequently opened up on the final turn and drew off in the stretch to win very easily in extremely adverse conditions.
The winner is owned by Cairoli Racing Stable and bred by Westbury Stables LLC. Monforte’s dam She’s a Ketch is a half-sister to stakes winner Silver Cloud.
