Bridgetown adds $100K Troy S. to resume

Bridgetown led at every stride to win the $100,000 Troy S. by a half-length [VIDEO] Wednesday at Saratoga Race Course. The 5-year-old is the 14th stakes winner of 2012 for Speightstown, second best among all North American stallions.

Speightstown’s progeny earnings of over $5.6 million ranks third on the General Sire list. His leading earner on the year is the Canadian sprint specialist Essence Hit Man, a two-time graded stakes winner at Woodbine this year.

After grabbing a slim lead right away, Bridgetown was pressured the entire trip, but never relinquished the top spot, holding off his closest pursuer Perfect Officer to get the 5 1/2 furlongs over the firm turf course in 1:01.52.

The Troy was Bridgetown’s first stakes win of 2012, and his sixth in his career. He also won last year’s running of the Troy and the Grade 3 Summer S. at Woodbine in 2009. His career earnings now stand at $844,700.

Bridgetown races in the colors of his breeder Eugene Melnyk. The chestnut was bred in Florida and is out of the stakes-placed mare Ellesmere, who has also produced multiple stakes winners Clement Rock and Carnacks Choice.
