Once On Whiskey, who was a fast-closing second in his Feb. 3 debut, graduated to the winners’ ranks on Saturday with a sparkling effort in a seven-furlong maiden special weight affair for 3-year-olds at Santa Anita Park.
The dark bay colt, trained by Bob Baffert, is the third TDN Rising Star for Bodemeister, who leads all 2018 Third-Crop Sires with 30 winners to date. He is also one of only three Third-Crop sires with at least $1 million in progeny earnings this year.
Once On Whiskey was away slow but came on strongly, rolling by Paddock Pick in mid-stretch to finish the seven panels in a quick 1:22.92.
The winner is owned by Pegram, Watson and Weitman and was bred by Gabriel Duignan and Crosshaven Bloodstock.
