Baffert goes to $260,000 for Bellamy Road filly at OBS

A filly by Bellamy Road brought a top bid of $260,000, 13 times his stud fee, from trainer Bob Baffert during the second day of the March 12-13 OBS Selected Two-Year-Olds in Training Sale in central Florida. The filly impressed during last week’s under tack show, breezing a quick eighth mile in 10 seconds flat, just a tick off the fastest preview breeze time.

“She is very very nice,” said Baffert shortly after signing the ticket.

The filly, named Burns Bright, was listed as hip No. 192 and consigned by Stephens Thoroughbreds, agent. She is the first foal out of Candle Maker, a daughter of the stakes winner Your Call. The family is loaded with black type, including Hollywood Derby (G1) winner Olympio, Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (G1) winner Tapizar, and Secretariat S. (G1) winner Paddy O’Prado.

Bellamy Road, who stands at WinStar Farm this year for $20,000, is led this year by All Squared Away, last year’s Lexington S. (G2) winner who will start in this Saturday’s Grade 2 San Luis Rey S. at Santa Anita Park.
