Paynter’s multiple stakes-winning mare A Bit of Both tallied her fourth black type score Saturday at Gulfstream Park in the off-the-turf $75,000 Captiva Island S.
The 5-year-old is the second stakes winner and fourth stakes horse this year for Paynter, who is currently second on the 2021 General Sire list with the performance of his top-class Knicks Go, winner of the $3 million Pegasus World Cup (G1). Knicks Go’s next start will be in the Dubai World Cup (G1) in late March.
The versatile and consistent A Bit of Both was well off the early pace set by Queen of Shades, but with Jose Ortiz, Jr. biding his time, she kicked into high gear coming into the stretch and rolled to the front in the final sixteenth to win by a half-length over Miss Auramet over a very sloppy racetrack.
The winner is owned by Michael Dubb, Madaket Stables, Darsan Inc., Bethlehem Stables and David Simon. Winner of 10 of her 18 lifetime starts, A Bit of Both has earned $433,253. She was bred by Darsan and WinStar Farm.
