Speightstown filly wins G1 Estrella Gran Prix

She’s Happy (ARG), a 4-year-old Speightstown filly, showed tremendous heart in the late stages of the Group 1 Estrellas Sprint Grand Prix at San Isidro Racetrack in Argentina on Saturday evening, forging clear in the final 100 yards to win the prestigious race by about two lengths.

The Carreras de las Estrellas card at San Isidro is known as Argentina’s version of the Breeders’ Cup.

A Haras Futuro S. R. L. homebred, She’s Happy broke from post 11 in the 14 horse field. Going 1,000 meters (about 5 furlongs) on the straight turf course, She’s Happy maintained her path for most of the trip. In seventh with about two furlongs to run, she really dug in at that point, surging past the front runners to power to the lead she would not relinquish.

The victory was worth $168,750 for She’s Happy, who has now won seven of ten lifetime starts.

With graded stakes winners on three continents this year, Speightstown is one of the world’s top sires. His progeny earnings are in excess of $5.8 million, third among all sires. His top earner this year is Reynaldothewizard, winner of the $1.2 million Dubai Golden Shaheen (G1).
