Weekend Hideaway notches 3rd career SW

A dual stakes winner in 2012, Speightstown’s 3-year-old colt Weekend Hideaway made it stakes win number three on Friday at Belmont Park with an impressive 4 3/4-length victory in the $100,000 Gone Fishin S.

Sent off the 7-5 favorite in the six furlong turf contest, Weekend Hideaway asserted his authority right from the start. He was up a length and a half after a quarter mile, two and a half lengths at the head of the stretch, and continued to pull away in the lane, stopping the time in a lively 1:08.23 on the firm inner turf course.

This was the turf debut for the Red and Black Stable colorbearer, who took the $98,000 David S. at Saratoga and $125,000 Bertram F. Bomgard S., at Belmont, last year. His career mark now stands at 4-2-1 in nine starts, earning $295,500.

Speightstown is once again near the top of the General Sire list, currently second with North American earnings of $5.6 million. His 32 repeat winners tops all sires, while his 92 winners with 14 stakes wins both rank second on the list.
