Speightstown filly a back-to-back SW at BEL

Speightstown’s 4-year-old filly Munnings Sister, a full sister to the talented Munnings, earned her second straight stakes victory at Belmont Park with a front-running win in the $85,000 Smart and Fancy S. on Thursday.

The chestnut filly flashed her usual early speed before drawing clear in the stretch to hit the wire 1 ½ lengths on top. The final time was a crisp 1:09 4/5 for six furlongs over a local main track listed as “good” after rains earlier in the day.

The win marked Munnings Sister’s fourth in a stakes event, and it increased her earnings to $226,250 for owner and breeder Charles Fipke. Barclay Tagg trains the filly that has now won six of her 12 lifetime starts to date.

Speightstown is a Top 10 General Sire in North America again in 2013 for the fourth straight year, and a Top 3 General Sire for the second consecutive year. His current No. 3 ranking this year includes another stellar season of stakes winners to date. Munnings Sister marks one of his 8 stakes winners in 2013, which also includes recent Belmont Grade 2 winner Fast Bullet.
