Harlan’s Holiday: Big numbers at OBS sale

Led by a pair of colts that sold for more than $300,000 on closing day of the April 22-25 OBS 2-year-olds in Training sale, the offspring of Harlan’s Holiday caught the eye of plenty of buyers at the four-day central Florida auction.

Hip No. 1087, a gray or roan colt consigned by Stephens Thoroughbreds LLC, Agent, was sold to The Three Amigos for $410,000. The juvenile is the first foal out of the unraced mare Tinca’s Song, a daughter of Catinca, winner of six graded stakes topped by the Grade 1 Ruffian H.

The Three Amigo’s purchased worked an eighth in :10 1/5 seconds at last week’s under tack show.

Day 4 of the sale also saw hip No. 1126, consigned by Craig Wheeler, agent, sell for $310,000 to Zayat Stables LLC. The bay colt, named Vegas Strip, is out of the Pulpit mare Untamed Passion, who is a half-sister to Super Derby (G2) winner Fantasticat.

The sale wrapped up with Harlan’s Holiday having seven horses sell for a total of $1,125,000, for an average of $160,714.
