Dance to Bristol was in top form Saturday night at Charles Town Races, running away to a facile nine length victory in the $200,000 Sugar Maple S. (VIDEO). The 4-year-old filly was the second stakes winner of the night for her sire Speightstown, coming just one race after Fearsome took the $50,000 Charles Town Dash.
Speightstown ranks second on the 2013 General Sire list with $3.2 million in progeny earnings, and his 53 winners to date ties him for the top spot on that list.
Dance to Bristol made her winning move on the second of two turns in the seven furlong contest for older fillies and mares. Laying third prior to that, the Ollie Figgins III trainee went to the front at the quarter pole, then asserted her superiority in the stretch to complete the course in 1:23.78, just a second off the track record.
“When we got to the three-eighths pole, where my trainer told me to let her go, I just let her roll and she did it,” winning rider Xavier Perez said. “She did an amazing job.”
The win was the third straight for Dance to Bristol, who now sports a mark of 6-7-0 in 14 outings and has earned $350,880 for Copperville Farm. Her previous stakes wins came in the $58,000 Pandora S. at Aqueduct and the $75,000 Marshua S. at Laurel Park.
Dance to Bristol is out of the winning Louis Quatorze mare Dance to Dawn and was bred in Kentucky by Mr. and Mrs. David Garner. The chestnut filly was a $42,000 buy out of the 2011 Fasig-Tipton Midlantic sale of 2-year-olds in training.
