Rising Star for Speightstown at Gulfstream

Calistoga rocketed to a 5 1/2-length victory in her career debut Saturday at Gulfstream Park, earning the 3-year-old Speightstown filly the coveted TDN ‘Rising Star’ tag after the ultra-impressive display.

Calistoga certainly looks like a filly with a big future after her front-running tour de force, getting the six furlongs in 1:09.77. The 3-year-old Kentucky bred was assigned a  stellar Beyer Speed Figure of 98.

The winner was bred by Jerry and Ann Moss and is out of Styler, a half-sister to Moss’ 2005 Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Giacomo as well as Tiago, winner of the Santa Anita Derby (G1) and Goodwood S. (G1). Now owned by Don Dizney, Calistoga was a $180,000 purchase at the 2011 Keeneland September Yearling sale.

Speightstown had great success in 2012 on the racetrack, with his progeny earning $9.98 million, with 20 stakes winners accounting for 28 black-type wins. He is standing the 2013 season at WinStar for $60,000 LFS&N.
