Colonel John Kee offering brings $250K

The first Colonel John yearling to sell at the Keeneland September sale brought a healthy winning bid of $250,000, more than 16 times his 2012 stud fee. The bay colt sold during session 3, on Sept. 12, with Wayne Lobdell signing the ticket for the Woods Edge Farm offering.

Cataloged as hip No. 669, the yearling is a 3/4-brother to WinStar Farm’s Gemologist, winner of this year’s Grade 1 Wood Memorial and the Kentucky Jockey Club (G2) last year. Their dam Crystal Shard has also produced the stakes-winning filly Clear Destiny and the stakes-placed colt Perfect Cut.
