Tiznow 2yo romps at Belmont

Tizracer ran away from the field to the tune of a 10 1/2-length maiden special weight win on Sept. 8, going a mile at Belmont Park. The dark bay colt is by Tiznow, a perennial top-10 sire who is once again firmly entrenched in that group this year, with just shy of $5.2 million in progeny earnings.

Tizracer came away from the gate quickly without encouragement from John Velasquez. After being pressed through a half-mile in :46.90 seconds, the Todd Pletcher trainee began to draw away under his own power. The victory was a foregone conclusion a furlong from the wire as Velasquez wrapped up late.

Bred in Kentucky by Woodford Thoroughbreds, Tizracer sold for $450,000 at the 2011 Keeneland September yearling sale. The youngster is out of G City Gal, who bankrolled nearly $300,000 and placed in six graded stakes, including the Princess Rooney H. (G1) and Honorable Miss S. (G2).
