Teeth of the Dog tore through the field en route to a 3 3/4-length victory in the $100,000 Easy Goer Stakes on June 9 at Belmont. [VIDEO]
It was the first stakes win for the son of Bluegrass Cat, and came before 85,000 in the packed stands on Belmont Stakes Day. Victory also propelled Bluegrass Cat into the lead among all New York-based sires of stakes winners this season.In the Easy Goer, Teeth of the Dog broke alertly, then tracked the pace in mid-pack before commencing his run at the six-furlong mark. Guided by Joel Rosario, the crowd’s favorite split horses at the quarter pole, then drew off in the final sixteenth for a resounding triumph.
A contender in the Preakness (G1) on May 19th, Teeth of the Dog has now faced the starter six times, with two wins, a second, two thirds and earnings of $226,450 to his credit. Out of Deputy Reality, by Deputy Minister, he was bred in Kentucky by Royal Pegasus, and races in the silks of J. W. Singer LLC. Classic trainer Michael Matz handles the conditioning.
Bluegrass Cat (Storm Cat-She’s a Winner, by A.P. Indy) has now sired eight stakes winners, 22 stakes horses, and earners of more than $6.8 million in just two crops. He stands as property of a Vinery/WinStar Venture at Vinery, New York for $17,500.
