Tales of Grimm, a Distorted Humor colt who was the sale topper at the 2011 Tattersalls Craven Breeze-up Sale, broke his maiden in his career bow today at Newbury, England.
Purchased for 320,000 guineas ($546,067) by Sir Robert Ogden and trained by Sir Michael Stoute, Tales of Grimm came charging late in the seven-furlong event to prevail by a head under champion rider Kieren Fallon.
After the race, Barry Simpson, racing manager for the owner, told the media “Kieren thought he was one of the nicest-moving horses that he’s sat on for some time…We’ve always thought he had some ability, but you never know until you get out on a racecourse what that level of ability is. Sir Michael has been reporting that the horse has been working quite nicely…it’s just nice to have a horse who looks as though he has a lot of potential. If Sir Michael feels he’s ready, we’ll put him in some of those better races at the back end of the season.”
Bred in Kentucky by Windsong Farms, Tales of Grimm is out of Dynaformer’s Graded stakes-winning daughter Stupendous Miss, and is a full brother to 2011 San Fernando (G2)-third Do It All. This is the immediate family of European Champion Storm Bird.
Stupendous Miss is currently in foal to new WinStar stallion Summer Bird, who is also the covering sire on the dam of the runner-up in the race.
