More Than Ready filly headed to Breeders’ Cup after Selima S. win

Consumer Spending is likely headed to next month’s Breeders’ Cup following her sharp victory in the $150,000 Selima S. Saturday at Laurel Park.

The gray/roan 2-year-old daughter of More Than Ready was making her stakes debut Saturday following a handy maiden-breaking win Sept. 6 at Saratoga. Employing a similar style at Laurel, she sat several lengths off the early pace along the inside. With just over a quarter mile to run, Consumer Spending kicked into gear and came three-wide into the stretch. She was full of run in the final furlong, blowing by the leaders to win by 2 ½-lengths in 1:43.21 for the 1 1/16-miles on the firm turf.

“She’s a really nice filly,” said trainer Chad Brown’s assistant Luis Cabrera. “We wanted to give her a race to prepare for the Breeders’ Cup (Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1), for the big races. We know she’s got a lot of class. When (jockey Carrasco) asked her to go, she responded. She’s a very talented filly.”

Consumer Spending has won two of her three starts and earned $165,000 for Klaravich Stables.

Consumer Spending is daughter of Siempre Mia, whose dam is multiple graded stakes winner Shaconage and was bred by Forging Oaks Farm. She produced a full sister to Consumer Spending earlier this year.

As a sire, More Than Ready has accounted for more Breeders’ Cup wins (7) than any sire in the history of the event.
