Monforte racked up his third stakes win of the year Saturday at Gulfstream Park West with a 1 3/4-length win in the Showing Up S.
The 3-year-old Carpe Diem colt has carved out a nice career while racing in south Florida; his record now stands at 7-1-1 in 12 starts, with earnings of $249,813 for Rancho Alegre.
In Saturday’s one-mile turf affair, Monforte chased the pace set by Allegedly Perfect before taking over for good with three furlongs to run. Island Commish and Jolting Joe made non-threatening runs to take the minor placings.
Monforte was bred in Florida by Westbury Stables and is one of Carpe Diem’s six stakes horses this year. Carpe Diem will stand the 2021 season at WinStar for $7,500 S&N.
