Paynter, the leading Fourth-Crop sire of 2020, will be represented in this year’s Kentucky Derby (G1) by Winning Impression, who drew post 14 in the 18-horse field.
Paynter leads his generation by black type winners, with five, black type horses (13), and progeny earnings of nearly $3.5 million.
Winning Impression earned his Derby trip with a third in the May 2 Arkansas Derby (G1) and will be looking for his first stakes score in Saturday’s Run for the Roses.
Trained by Dallas Stewart for West Point Thoroughbreds and Pearl Racing, Winning Impression was bred by WinStar Farm and through his third dam, is from the same family as Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) winner Volponi.
Winning Impression will be ridden in the Derby by Joe Rocco, Jr. Post time Saturday, race 14, is 7:01 p.m. ET.
