More Than Ready’s outstanding race mare Rushing Fall turned in one of the finest performances of her career Saturday at Keeneland with a track record-setting victory in the $350,000 Jenny Wiley S. (G1).
In addition to lowering the track record by more than a second, Rushing Fall became only the second horse to win the Jenny Wiley twice, and also joined Beholder and Lady Eli as the only modern era distaffers to win Grade 1s from ages two through five.
Rushing Fall won the 2019 Jenny Wiley in front-running style, but was content to sit in second just off of pacesetter Jolie Olimpica (BRZ), who took the field through a half-mile in :46.94. Rushing Fall engaged the early leader entering the stretch, then after a brief tussle, pulled clear in the final furlong to win by three-quarters of a length in 1:39.02 for the 1 1/16-miles, lowering the old mark of 1:40.30.
“She’s the type of horse that she doesn’t have to be on the lead,” said winning rider Javier Castellano. “Today it worked out great. I could keep track of the front runner. The way she did it is amazing. She’s a really nice filly.”
Rushing Fall races for Bob Edwards’ e Five Racing Thoroughbreds. Now a five-time Grade 1 winner, Rushing Fall has won 10 of her 13 starts and earned $2,278,000.
Rushing Fall was bred in Kentucky by Fred Hertrich III and John Fielding. She is a half-sister to stakes winner Milam. Her dam Autumnal produced a full brother to Rushing Fall this year.
More Than Ready was also represented this weekend by Hit the Road, who took the Oceanside S. at Del Mar for his second stakes win, as well as Keeneland allowance winner Title Ready, who is twice graded stakes-placed.
