Halo Again forged his way past Golden Wave in the final furlong of the $125,000 Queenston S. to register a 1 1/4-length victory in the seven-furlong contest for 3-year-olds on July 4 at Woodbine.
The Speightstown colt won the $225,000 Coronation S. over the same track in November and is now 3-0-0 in five starts and has earned $204,577 for Winchell Thoroughbreds and Willis Horton Racing.
Halo Again is the eighth stakes winner this year for her sire. With over $6.2 million in progeny earnings worldwide to date, Speightstown is the leading sire in North America by earnings, as well as by Grade 1 winners and Grade 1 horses.
Halo Again got away sharply and pressed Ennis the Menace and Golden Wave through the first half-mile that went in :46.29. Golden Wave took command entering the stretch, but Halo Again bore down on the outside and eventually made his way to the front, then pulled away in the final strides to stop the timer in 1:23.63.
“It was clear all the way,” said winning rider Rafael Hernandez. “We’ve got a long backstretch. So he just broke good, kept him comfortable, clear and he did the rest. Turning for home, he switched leads. He’s a big horse, he’s got a nice heart, good stride. He’s does everything good.”
Bred by Anderson Farms Ont. Inc., Halo Again is out of the Unbridled’s Song mare Halo’s Verse and is a half-brother to two-time stakes winner Inflexibility. Halo Again’s third dam Goulash is the dam of two-time champion Ashado.
