Leading Fourth-Crop sire Paynter’s Queen of God tallied her second stakes win of the year Saturday when she scored by three-quarters of a length in the $150,000 Bourbonette Oaks at Turfway Park.
Queen of God had raced exclusively on the turf prior to the Bourbonette. Getting a rail trip for the first six furlongs, she stalked the pace before making a three-wide move on the final bend. Despite bearing out somewhat in the stretch, the dark bay filly put away even-money favorite Laura’s Light and held off Pass the Plate to win comfortably.
“I got a perfect trip, I can’t complain,” said winning rider Irad Ortiz, Jr.. “She broke good, put me in a perfect spot. I was waiting, and when I asked her she responded for me.”
Queen of God won the grassy Mrs. Presidents’ S. at Gulfstream Park a month ago and is now 4-0-0 in seven starts and has earned $161,284 for Winners Circle Racing Stable. She was bred by Respite Farm.
