Palm Springs and Fearless, both owned by China Horse Club International and WinStar Farm, both scored victories on Feb. 2 at Gulfstream Park, hinting at the promise of future success.
Fearless started off the action in race four, a 1 1/16-mile allowance for older horses. In what was just his second lifetime start, the 4-year-old blew away the competition, winning by 8 1/2-lengths in a hand ride. Fearless made his first start on Dec. 22, breaking his maiden going six furlongs, also at Gulfstream.
Fearless is out of the multiple Grade 1-placed mare And Why Not, also the dam of graded stakes-placed Just Whistle.
Some 90 minutes later, Palm Springs broke his maiden in a very gallant effort, besting Mister Candy Ride by a nose after leading the entire one-mile trip. A $1 million Keeneland yearling, Palm Springs was second iin his Jan. 11 debut going six panels.
Palm Springs is the second foal out of stakes-placed Sweet Bliss and is from the family of champion Sweet Catomine and the multiple Grade 1 winner Life Is Sweet, both of whom were Breeders’ Cup winners.
