Ms Peintour stretched out to 1 1/2-miles for the first time in her career in Sunday’s $100,000 Astra S. (G3) and the 5-year-old Paynter mare came home a 2 1/2-length winner in the turf marathon at Santa Anita Park.
Ms Peintour capped a big weekend for her sire that also saw Needs Supervision and Glennwood earn stakes placings in their 2020 debuts. Paynter finished 2019 second by both earnings and winners on the Third-Crop Sire list and has been a top-10 sire each of his first three seasons.
Ms Peintour had never been past nine furlongs before Sunday, but under a very patient ride from Brice Blanc, kicked on from fourth at the three-furlong mark and won going away in 2:26.71 on the firm turf course.
“After her last race, I told [trainer] Brian [Koriner] I think she wants to run further,” said Blanc. “She stays very steady and even though she doesn’t have a big turn of foot, she keeps trying. This race came up at a mile and half and it was perfect. I’m very happy to be right and I’m glad to have this opportunity with Brian and [owner] Samantha [Siegel].”
Ms Peintour races for Siegel’s Jay Em Ess Stable. Her record is now 3-1-2 in 13 starts with earnings of $166,534. Bred in Kentucky by Bill & Phyllis Adair and Connie Brown, Ms Peintour is out of the two-time stakes winner Dyna’s Destiny.
